  4. process by powerful computers.

  6. Under electronic conditions, the world resembles a 
  7. global village. As McLuhan predicted, this did not 
  8. mean that everyone would get along. In North 
  9. America, a ‚Äô90s generation gap looms, as Nintendo 
  10. kids evolve their own style and sensibility to the 
  11. consternation of middle-aged television babies. A 
  12. global language of popular commercial culture has 
  13. forged new cultural literacies. The classics, and 
  14. recorded history, are transferred to CD-ROMs,
